THE SUN’S LIGHT
2021 - Student Project
For our final project, we were asked to create a narrative through storytelling.
I usually think in motion or frames and some of the most masterful of movers are dancers. They spend years learning how to use their bodies to tell stories.
I was also influenced by the Greek myth surrounding the story of Icarus. With my story, I wanted to highlight a dancer who lost their way and after finding her long-lost friend she starts to heal.
The story of Icarus was also a major influence on this story. I wanted to comment on how people in society tend to prioritize perfection over their own well-being, leading to burnout.
I also wanted to push against the stigma associated with asking for and getting help. Mental health isn’t always something that we can work through alone.
These are the most dominant colors throughout the narrative because
I wanted to emphasize the intensity of Jo’s feelings and
drama that tends to surround stage performers.
The feathers worked as an element that allows
the reader to toggle through each scene.
